Nice: a fire breaks out near a shopping center

A fire broke out this Wednesday, August 11 in Nice around 1:30 p.m., near the Lingostière commercial area to the west of the city, according to our colleagues from Nice Matin and the firefighters (Twitter). About sixty firefighters had to be engaged, on this “brush fire” located near “shopping centers of the Plaine du Var”.
The fire is no longer advancing and is now fixed, reports France 3 PACA. Two water bomber helicopters were engaged. Police blocked traffic at the access ramp to the shopping area. It is always recommended to avoid the area.
A nearby store was evacuated by the manager and movie theaters took their viewers out on their initiative. The testimonies relaying the images of the fire are numerous on social networks.
Several elected officials praised on Twitter the work of the firefighters to overcome the fire and the municipal police and secure the area. “I extend my deep support to the firefighters of 06 who are intervening at the moment”, declared on the social network Marine Brenier, LR deputy for the Alpes-Maritimes. “Thanks to them”, also tweeted Gaël Nofri, elected official of the city of Nice.
This fire affected traffic west of Nice, due to the slowdown of onlookers passing nearby. The flames were not very high at the end of the afternoon but the black smoke which emanated from them was significant.
