The French and fashion shopping – New OpinionWay-Clearpay study

Clearpay, the leader in free split payment, and the OpinionWay institute have studied the feelings of the French regarding their consumption of fashion items. To go further in the survey, and understand what brings together and distinguishes millennials and Generation Z from their elders, a segmentation was made between the 18/34 year olds, strong consumers of fashion, and the over 35s.

Among the criteria that most determine their choice when buying a fashion item, the French generally favor practical (45%), quality (39%) and promotional (37%) clothing. A completely reversed trifecta if we look at the side of 18/34 year olds, who favor promotional items (33%), then quality (29%) and finally practicality (27%). For 23% of them, clothing also serves to express their personality. It should also be noted that the criteria of "Made in France" and the origin of the product come in 4th and 5th position, a trend which is therefore confirmed.

*Study carried out on July 28 and 29, 2021, with a sample of 1024 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over. This sample was interviewed by self-administered online questionnaire on the CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) system.
