When influencers have a real impact on society. The young Anna Sacks, very followed on the social network TikTok, knew how to move the lines by recently publishing a video in which she presents Coach brand bags, which she found in a trash can.

Viewed nearly three million times, the video shows the influencer showing off luxury bags, a bit like "unpacking", a format popular with fashion influencers. Except that the bags shown by Anna Sacks are all cut out. The influencer then explains to her subscribers that this is the fate reserved for unsold items from the brand.

A brand that prided itself on being eco-responsible

A scandalous practice, which immediately moved Internet users, as evidenced by the many comments posted under her video, especially on Instagram, where Anna Sacks also shared her content.

The young influencer also pinpoints the brand's arguments, caught in the act of misleading communication, since Coach claims to promote the circular economy and favor the repair of its brand's bags over their replacement.

According to Anna Sacks, the brand therefore asks its employees to voluntarily destroy unsold bags or shoes, before throwing them in the trash, in order to pass these damaged items and therefore be exempt from tax on these goods.

The reaction of the brand

Faced with the virality of the video, the leather goods brand was quick to react. To put an end to the scandal, the brand indicated on its Instagram account that it was ending this practice. "We have now stopped destroying products that are returned to us, damaged or unsalable products. We will strive to make the most of these products in order to reuse them within the framework of our (re)loved program or in other programs. favoring recycling,” she explains.

The New York leather goods brand has several online outlets for its products in France. The bags cost between 350 and 850 euros.
