Venezuela: police arrested after the filmed execution of a young man

Two Venezuelan police officers have been arrested and six others are wanted in connection with an investigation into the execution of a young man by law enforcement which was filmed and the video of which is circulating on social networks, announced Friday, October 1, Attorney General Tarek William Saab. “Detained are Willians Ortega and Cesar Freitas, officials of the PNB (Bolivarian National Police) of Miranda, responsible for the execution of citizen Dimilson Rafael Guzman Santaella”, writes the Attorney General of the Republic on Twitter. The state of Miranda (north) includes part of Caracas.

A video circulating on social networks shows a young man held by his arms in the frame of a door and executed with a rifle bullet by a police officer in combat gear. The prosecutor confirmed with AFP that the arrests are linked to this video, filmed from behind and apparently shot without the knowledge of the police. He declined to give further details, including the exact location of the execution or the age of the victim.

The two police officers arrested were charged with “aggravated homicide”. In addition to the two police officers arrested, six other officers are wanted in connection with this case, the prosecutor said on Twitter. “Under my orders, the public prosecutor will prosecute and sanction in an exemplary manner any violation of human rights,” he concludes.
