The 37th edition of the international festival of fashion, photography and fashion accessories, known as the springboard for young designers, will be held from October 13 to 16, the organizers announced on Friday. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Antwerp, Glenn Martens is the artistic director of the brand Y/Project, where he makes experimental fashion, and of the Italian giant Diesel.

He presented his haute couture collection on Wednesday with corseted silhouettes for Jean Paul Gaultier, who said he had taken on a youthful look thanks to the collaboration. After bowing out in 2020, Jean PaulGaultier invites young designers to make collections for his brand.

Aska Yamashita, artistic director of the Montex workshop, an embroidery house belonging to Chanel's Métiers d'Art group since 2011, will chair the fashion accessories jury.

The launch of this 37th edition took place on Friday evening at 19M, a new venue for the Maison Chanel intended to bring together its fine crafts houses at the Porte d'Aubervilliers (north of Paris) and inaugurated last week by President Emmanuel Macron. The photo jury will be chaired by Belgian Pierre Debusschere, who has done fashion campaigns for designer Raf Simons and clips for superstar Beyoncé.

The oldest of the fashion competitions for young professionals around the world, the Hyères festival has in the past rewarded the Belgian Anthony Vaccarello, now a designer for Saint Laurent, or the Dutch duo Victor & Rolf, who paraded in the weeks of haute couture in Paris.

Distinguished in 2018, another Dutch duo, Rushemy Botter and LisiHerrebrugh, were then appointed to the artistic direction of Nina Ricci and present the collections of her Botter brand in Paris. (AFP)
