Arizona Muse: "Overconsumption of clothes means thinking about new habits"

When you've worked with the greatest photographers, rubbed shoulders with star designers, parades for Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Saint Laurent or Dior, what's left to do? The one who has been compared to Lauren Bacall for her haughty bearing and her mysterious aura replies: "To mobilize for sustainable development, to work on the evolution of fashion and luxury production models towards more socially and ecologically responsible processes. .” Obviously for the American supermodel Arizona Muse, who, in the middle of a shoot in the Paris region near Rambouillet, chose to stay in the Barn hotel, an ecological spot accompanied by Sy, her two-month-old granddaughter. "But that doesn't mean I'm quitting my modeling business, on the contrary. I love him too much and I need the status he gives me to hope to give my positions the most impact possible.

At 30, this young mother of two has found extra soul in her ecological commitment. “This reflection on sustainable development is an exciting cause in the service of fashion, creation and a better world. It looks like an existential revolution to me.”

Cool hippie childhood, breeding ground for his commitment

Today, Arizona is campaigning. This is not a posture: "This fight is essential for me because it looks like a return to basics." She does not forget her childhood in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in a hippish environment, her parents concerned with ecology, her education in Steiner schools, which develop creativity, strength of character and love of nature. . “I had a horse, whose name was Ebony, that I spent my time with. We led, my brother and I, a life in the open air. Sport in all seasons. Arizona wanted to be a doctor. But a scout from a modeling agency discovers her on the streets of Santa Fe and, at 21, makes her sign her first contracts.

Arizona Muse:

After ten years of career, Arizona understands that the world of fashion, closely connected to those of the economy, politics, agriculture, is the ideal ground to undertake his crusade. But be careful, she does not take herself for the messiah. His approach has the humility of ethnologists. Before speaking, she looks and what does she see? “The use of chemicals in the manufacture of fabrics and dyes with the consequent depletion of the earth. Overconsumption of clothing also means thinking about new, smarter and less compulsive consumer habits.” And how ? "But it can be learned," she exclaims. “You have to work, get informed, read books, attend conferences, listen to experts. Me, I spend my time studying, especially at the University of Cambridge, where I regularly attend classes, and I find that the more I inform myself, the more I want to consume differently.

An ambition: to create its own eco-conscious brand

Arizona has its feet on the ground and makes simple proposals. “Is it so complicated to be ecological? We could start by reading the labels of the clothes we buy, favoring organic cotton, linen, hemp whose cultivation does not require chemical treatment, organizing exchanges at home between friends which allow the clothes to have a second life."

The beautiful American intends to create her own brand, not to be a designer but to test new materials, “rather biodegradable natural materials”. She is also the ambassador of Sustainable Angle, a Swiss non-governmental organization whose objective is to support the least polluting projects, in particular research on the most ecological textiles. She attended the committed debates organized by the luxury giants at the fashion summit in Copenhagen in May, was also part of the management committee of Paris Good Fashion alongside Kering, LVMH and Chanel. An association that wants to transform the City of Light into the capital of eco-responsible fashion by 2024, the year of the Olympic Games.
