These style ambassadors run the biggest women's magazines and dictate trends. How to appropriate their science of the look  ? Tracks to follow…

They are the new favorite target of style hunters. They ? The fashion editors, these ultra-stylish informed girls, who officiate in the biggest women's magazines on the planet. Some are editors-in-chief, others star stylists, but all have in common an all-consuming passion for fashion combined with an extraordinary sense of style. Result ? They dare what others do not even consider: improbable colors, explosive prints, overdesigned cuts, futuristic heels... So these icons of the fashion sphere have been erected as new ambassadors of style. At each Fashion Week, in Paris, New York, London or Milan, they now steal the show from it girls and other young actresses looking for contracts.

They comment on their look of the day in pictures

Their mother to all? The superpowerful Anna Wintour, of Vogue US, the one who opened the breach, treated like a Hollywood highness. Tangible proof of their state of absolute grace, the claws solicit them more and more. We remember that in 2012 the American brand J.Crew had appealed to Virginie Mouzat, then fashion critic at Le Figaro, to play the muses. In the process, the department store Barney's, in New York, had asked Pope Carine Roitfeld to shine in its catalog, while the Equipment brand of shirts featured, among others, the stylist Elisa Nalin in its advertising campaign. . Recently, it was the turn of the charming Caroline Issa, fashion editor-in-chief of Tank magazine, to show the extent of her talents, by signing a highly acclaimed capsule collection of shoes for the house of L. K. Bennett. This is for the tip of the fashion iceberg, because many are those who work in the shadows (often in great secrecy) as consultants to luxury brands.

We grabbed a few of these rare birds during the last Paris Fashion Week.

Marie-Amélie Sauvé

Creative consultant and fashion editor for Vogue Italy and W

Your look of the day? Balenciaga dress and shoes by Nicolas Ghesquière, vintage jacket, Azzedine Alaïa, and Céline clutch.

Your style? I like to wear very designer clothes. My favorite pieces are often designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga, like my black ruffled skirt and my cropped top that I haven't taken off this summer.

Your signature? I like to mix very sharp pieces and very luxurious basics. Like a large cashmere sweater on a Balenciaga embroidered tweed skirt.

Your fashion addiction? I compulsively consume images!

Your fashion icons? I am in perpetual search...in the end, I often realize that they are embodied in my fashion subjects.

Any stylistic advice?Better to invest in a very beautiful designer piece than to buy ten cheap and copied pieces!

Your shopping HQ? I love shopping in Tokyo. There are completely original pieces.

Your favorite designers? Nicolas Ghesquière, his clothes are modern and of very high quality, Rei Kawakubo and Julien Dossena, new French designer for Paco Rabanne.

The it pieces for this winter?A black wool crepe dress, zipped, designed by Junya Watanabe ; a cashmere high neck tunic sweater, Paco Rabanne ; the feeder bucket bag from Hermès ; and a pair of high boots, Martin Margiela.

Caroline Issa

Publisher and fashion editor-in-chief of Tank magazine

Your look of the day? Bouchra Jarrar dress and Prada shoes.

Your style? Classic with an unexpected twist, like timeless cuts in pop colours... I cherish my old Stefano Pilati suits for Saint Laurent.

Your signature? Lipstick. I am sure that a good lipstick can spice up any look. I collect Kanebo and Nars hits.

Your fashion addiction? Shoes… It's a completely accepted addiction. At the moment, I like to follow young designers like Burak Uyan, Bionda Castana or Paul Andrew. My latest purchase however is a Prada model. Prada shoes are something!

Your fashion icons? I'm a huge fan of Jenna Lyons, creative director of J.Crew. This girl excels in the art of displaying ultra-elegant and relaxed looks. Holli Rogers, fashion director of net-a-porter.com, has an innate sense of style, with unexpected and successful combinations.

Any style advice? When in doubt about an outfit, stick to a nice lipstick and a pair of chandelier earrings. Two major stylistic assets. I often say that you should not calculate too much in fashion. You have to know how to remain spontaneous and have fun through combinations of colors, textures, prints, etc.

Your shopping HQ? Mouki, on Chiltern Street, London, I always leave with a load. Whenever I get the chance, I'll drop by Whistles and J.Crew. I'm a pro in shopping on the Net: I often surf on www.net-a-porter.com and on www.matchesfashion.com.

Your favorite designers? My God! Impossible to choose  ! It's like asking a mother to choose among her children.

The it pieces for this winter? For me, there is only one: a pink coat. The XXL model signed Carven has it all!

Giovanna Battaglia

Fashion editor for Vogue Italy and W Magazine

Your look of the day? A Miu Miu dress, Fratelli Rossetti oxfords, a vintage Gucci bag, Chanel sunglasses.

Your style? I don't like the idea of getting into a box. I think of myself as eclectic, classic and feminine. I like beautiful materials, fairly simple and elegant lines.

Your signature?Humour ! I like to add a touch of fantasy to each of my looks. This can result in an acid color, a T-shirt with a message or XXL jewellery.

Your fashion addiction? Shoes, jewellery, coats, bags, dresses… I love everything.

Your fashion icons? Classic and eccentric women. I am thinking of Audrey Hepburn, Monica Vitti, Catherine Deneuve in Belle de jour. I like this ambiguous duality.

Any stylistic advice? Staying yourself is essential. It's not about dressing up. The secret ? Dress according to your body, your shapes. There is nothing worse than wearing pieces that do not suit your body type.

Your shopping HQ? My problem is that the smallest stall, the smallest shop can become a place of temptation. I admit a particular addiction for vintage shops. Topshop is also one of my good addresses, especially to get your hands on the denim of the moment.

Your favorite designers? It's impossible to choose. There is good in all the top designers of the moment.

This winter's it piece? A dress with tropical flower motifs. Unexpected, even inappropriate, that's the goal!

Viviana Volpicella

Fashion editor for Vogue Brazil

Your look of the day? A Daslu T-shirt and pants set, a pair of No 21 loafers, a vintage leather jacket and a Prada bag.

Your style? Cheerful and colorful! I maintain the summer touch all year round. Even in the middle of winter, I wear very light materials from the summer collections, which I mix with cashmere or wool coats.

Your signature?A smile! Nothing to do with fashion, but I think good humor is an integral part of style.

Your fashion addiction? Nothing very original: bags and jewelry. For bags, I love iconic models from houses like Fendi, Prada, Valextra as well as small emerging brands. The latest to follow in my opinion? Sara Battaglia, Paula Cademartori and Elena Ghisellini. On the jewelry side, I mix pieces inherited from my family with completely wacky things from Hipanema, Ca & Lou, Virzi + DeLuca.

Your fashion icons? Bianca Jagger and actress Florinda Bolkan. They are very seventies. I like this type of natural beauty that imposes without the help of Photoshop or plastic surgery. It's encouraging !

Any stylistic advice? Don't forget to be polite!

Your shopping HQ? Antonia Boutique, in Milan. I find all my good basics there. I am also a big fan of American Apparel and J.Crew.

Your favorite designers ?Many Italians… Massimo Giorgetti for MSGM, Miuccia Prada, Alberto Biani, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino.

This winter's it pieces? The Saint Laurent gold boots, a Borsalino for the half-rock half-pirate touch, the Monster Baguette by Fendi and the coat dress by Céline.

Elizabeth Von Guttman

Co-founder of System magazine

Your look of the day? Chloé pants and shoes, a Cédric Charlier top, The Row sunglasses and a NewbarK clutch.

Your style? I would say effortlessly  chic. I like minimalist cuts and structured lines.

Your signature?I always keep comfort in mind, I'm ready to make a lot of sacrifices for fashion but not yet to suffer!

Your icons? Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall, for androgynous chic. Both played on the codes of male dressing with intelligence. Miuccia Prada also inspires me a lot as a woman. She constantly pushes the boundaries of creativity and stays true and honest to who she is.

Your fashion addiction? Blazers. The perfect little touch that adds extra chic to jeans or a pair of trainers. I just bought a Vanessa Bruno gray striped model, which I never take off.

Any stylistic advice? In my opinion, two things are important. Never let yourself be overtaken by clothing: you have to assume what you display. And wanting to be trendy at all costs is a mistake. The best way to find your style is to trust yourself.

Your shopping HQ? Dover Street Market in London, Colette in Paris and Opening Ceremony in New York. And a safe bet: the website www.ssense.com.

Your favorite designers? Haider Ackermann, Miuccia Prada, Phoebe Philo, Dries Van Noten.

The it pieces for this winter? In my opinion, the coat remains our best asset to stay stylish in winter. A terracotta model in shearling signed Bottega Veneta and another in orange stripes by Haider Ackermann.

Kate Lanphear

Style director at T magazine

Your look of the day?Céline jacket and trousers, Vlieger revolver bag & Vandam, Rupert Sanderson shoes.

Your style? Minimalist in color… I almost only wear black. It is a tone in which I feel good. I don't take off my J Brand or Acne jeans and my vintage t-shirts.

Your signature? Regularly borrow pieces from the men's wardrobe. I often refine my looks with a men's blazer, for example. I don't have a favorite brand, but I pay particular attention to the cut and the materials..., which often leads me straight to the big houses.

Your fashion addiction? Crosses, crucifixes. I wear them as earrings, pendants or bracelets.

Your fashion icons? Singers Axl Rose and Johnny Cash. I really admire the men in black side. They were true to their stylistic beliefs. I like this uncompromising side.

Do you have any stylistic advice? Play the opposite card. Bring out the big game when you least expect it and be low profile for the big occasions. I love when fashion surprises...

Your shopping HQ?Tokyo, again and again. Must stop at Dover Street Market Ginza. I also love exploring Nakameguro and Daikanyama. I often find pretty pieces for men that I appropriate quite easily. In New York, I love to browse the shops of St. Mark's Place with a clear preference for Trash and Vaudeville.

Your favorite designers? Alaïa and Helmut Lang.

The it pieces for this winter? An imposing coat and a nice pair of heeled boots. Regardless of the brand, these are pieces of character.
