The 2018 rating of Hermès bags: still on the rise
The site reveals a summary of the trends observed in the three most prestigious collections of the Hermès house: the Birkin, the Kelly and the Constance. Decryption thanks to the discerning eye of leather goods expert, Jérôme Lalande.
The Constance: the most impressive progression
The average price of the Hermès Constance bag increased tenfold between 2006 and 2018 for leather models. “The relaunch of the model by Hermès in 2012, in an improved version, largely explains the renewed interest of buyers for this model” explains Jérôme Lalande. This is one of the most striking progressions among Hermès bags over the past decade.

The Birkin: a safe bet that is stabilizing
The average price of the Birkin bag was multiplied by 2.2 between 2006 and 2018 for leather models. “The increase in the Birkin price has stabilized in recent years, especially on classic colors such as black, gold
or brown, due to a lower scarcity effect compared to the 2008-2011 period” emphasizes Jérôme Lalande. It is important to remember that some Birkin models, including rare colors, exotic skins, mini versions or limited editions such as the “So Black” remain rare and sought-after pieces whose value is rising sharply.

The Kelly: uninterrupted growth
The price of the Kelly by Hermès quadrupled between 2006 and 2018, for leather models. “We can see a postponement of the demand for Birkin on the Kelly for almost 2 years, which is confirmed in this perpetual increase in the average value of the Kelly over recent years” specifies Jérôme Lalande. A historic model from Hermès, the Kelly, whose production is limited, remains a highly coveted piece. “Vintage Kelly models in box leather, leather no longer used by Hermès, can only be found on the second-hand market,” adds Jérôme Lalande.

Hermès bags represent nearly half of the luxury bags sold at auction over the past 12 years. It is the house that has recorded the strongest increases in average price for its collections of iconic bags.
