Spotify: the lack of native compatibility with the HomePod strongly criticized by subscribers

Almost a year ago, Apple opened up the HomePod platform to music streaming services that compete with Apple Music. Thus, Amazon Music, Pandora and a few others were able to join Apple's small connected speaker. The native support brings a big gain in comfort for the user, who no longer has to take the iPhone out of his pocket to launch this or that song on his favorite platform and swing it on the HomePod via AirPlay.

Looking closely at the list of compatible services, we notice an absent brand, Spotify. The world number one in streaming is not natively compatible with the HomePod, and this time Apple has absolutely nothing to do with it. Spotify has indeed decided alone not to join this list, no doubt to mark a more general disagreement with the Cupertino company (Spotify has launched several anti-trust complaints against Apple).

Spotify's choice not to take HomePod into account is starting to seriously annoy users of the service AND owners of a HomePod, to the point that recriminations are starting to pile up on the Swedish firm's support page. Tired of months of waiting for an update that never comes, many users announce that they are going or have already unsubscribed from the service (and some, to go to Apple Music).

Some remarks are more than cutting: “How many comments does it take to draw attention to this? More than 100 pages? Being a software engineer myself, I know that such an integration shouldn't take so long. Come on, it's hard not to conclude that Spotify intentionally decided not to implement it. They didn't even say a simple "yes, we're working on it". It doesn't seem like Spotify cares about its users given the number of votes on this. »

Sometimes the rope ends up breaking, with the addition of a salty criticism of Spotify's double talk: "I left Spotify, it was a break for me - nothing happened and they don't don't care about the consumer – I waited a year, but nothing happened. I got 6 months free with my AirPods, so it was time to go. It's time to play Spotify fair, you can't complain you're not on the HomePod, then when they let you in you don't even bother to back it up. »

We are still surprised that a company like Spotify is taking part of its subscribers hostage in this way over differences of opinion with Apple. Not only is this not very elegant, but it could also give Apple's lawyers some legal balls (like: "You complain that the game is not open, but when it is you refuse to enter the field")
