France neighboring - Purchasing tourism puts French elected officials in embarrassment

Parliament wants to tighten the rules for those who shop abroad.But several elected border cantons hesitate to follow.

Purchasing tourism, it is evaluated at 10 billion francs per year.It weakens retail, costs jobs and weighs in the boxes of the Confederation.According to estimates, tax losses would be between 300 and 750 million francs.

This embarrassment was crystallized on two cantonal initiatives from Saint-Gall and Thurgovia.The texts point out that with the current system, the Swiss who make purchases for 300 francs often do not pay VAT, neither with us nor abroad.
