Luxury leather goods, the Atelier de Bourrellerie is looking for a hundred candidates for its three production sites

Sustained activity

The Berrichon group, which employs 164 people in La Chapelle-Saint-Ursin, 51 in Drevant but also 68 in Niherne (Indre), near Châteauroux, is even able to absorb a hundred candidates on its three sites. It is especially in the south of Cher that recruitment difficulties are glaring. It must be said that the activity is sustained. "Our client would almost like us to double our production capacities to become a 'pole', but we want to maintain a level of excellence", explains Nathalie Hanna. which the Berry company is active, experienced an insolent growth of 33% in the first half of 2021. 80% of its production is exported. While the famous house continues to open new leather goods shops in France, it also relies heavily on subcontracting, like the Atelier de Bourrellerie, which does not, however, refrain from producing its own brand Prouès by David Hanna on its Indian website Maroquinerie Hanna.

Four days of work, bonuses...

If luxury is not experiencing the crisis, it is paradoxically struggling to hire. However, the manual trade is rewarding and the salary conditions attractive for the sector. In any case, this is what the leaders of the Chapelle-Saint-Ursin company are convinced of. “We hire on permanent contracts at 1,835 euros gross over 4 days, with overtime every other Friday,” explains Nathalie Hanna. A salary plus bonuses.

Pôle emploi and local Missions, solutions for the future of young people

“Employees are challenged on quality and productivity. Bonuses that can reach up to 400 euros gross for these "craftsmen", who make their bags from A to Z. And the job remains open. “We don't have any prerequisite requirements, we have a lot of professional retraining,” explains Ludwig Villain, director of human resources at the Saddlery Workshop.

A predominantly female workforce

The company receives the leather from its client before making the bags. Before being established, each candidate is selected by Pôle emploi via the method of recruitment by simulation, before starting a 400-hour pre-recruitment training action which opens the way to a CDD under a professionalization contract for six months, before the CDI. Know-how is also essential.

Expansion in sight

"The DNA of the company is to reward the value of work and offer good conditions," insists the HRD. “But we have even more difficulties than before to hire, we have fewer people coming forward,” regrets Nathalie Hanna. These recruitment difficulties are all the more penalizing as the Saddlery Workshop (17 million euros in turnover) is considering expanding. The company makes the brand's iconic bags or more personalized pieces.

"Our client would almost like us to double our production capacities to become a 'pole', but we want to maintain a level of excellence," explains Nathalie Hanna. Grow yes, but not too quickly so as not to affect the quality of the work. But first recruit new craftsmen in the workshops.
