Ffil, second-hand leather Newsletter Partly-Cloudy

Exit the garage, hello the garden. For a few days, Claire Batardière has been moving.Leathers, tools, paperwork, everything has not yet found its place in the many storage of her new workshop, avenue Albert de Mun, but she already likes it.This workplace, it was she who imagined it, as well as the garden project, a new co-working space, completely fitted out in an old carpenters house, which gradually welcomes its new occupants.

Claire Batardière is the designer of Ffil, "Two thread girls", an eco-responsible brand of leather bags and accessories.Created fifteen years ago when she left the Duperré school in Paris, her brand took a turning point four years ago when she moved to Saint-Nazaire. She then launched her brand with her sister-in-law, and her activity quickly took off: her bags were present in 150 stores in the world and she hired three full-time people. Mais je me suis vite rendu compte que ce n’était pas ce qui me plaisait, admet-elle.

"Flat bags"

So when she moved to Saint-Nazaire, she decided to lower her production, but to become a creative herself again. His concept?Flat bags, that is to say made from a single piece of leather, which turns into a bag using pressures.

To design them, it uses leather falls from the luxury industry. The many colors and textures of its bags are therefore defined by the different arrivals, and in limited quantity. For some bags, such as the messenger model, customers can choose leather, the color of the handles and the flap ... With its removable shoulder strap, the bag can be worn in a thousand different ways, and therefore adapts to all practices. In order to reduce its waste as much as possible, it even reuses small falls to make decoration accessories, such as wall ties or colored furniture handles.

A collaboration with ESAT Marie-Moreau

While it performs part of the manufacturing, including the cut, with a machine installed in the garden garage in the garden, it is also a lot helped by residents of Esat Marie-Moreau of Saint-Nazaire. They make the small leather pompoms in particular that adorn the bags and make the seams.

For the moment, Claire Batardière does not have much time to make, between a paint and the end of the move of the garage in the garden. But it already welcomes customers in its new workshop, just above the Silebo furniture store.
