"No offer of alternative leather goods matched what I wanted: a leather material, with beautiful finishes, a quality bag that could replace the ones I had."

Part of this observation and with the firm intention of combining textile manufacturing and ecodesign, Marie Quiniou imagined Peurce, a brand of leather goods made from recycled apples. "the apple in the AppleSkin makes it possible to reduce the use of synthetic products to more than 50%. Today, the only solution that exists to replace leather, without being entirely made up of plastic, is apple textile," explains the project leader. "there is a tendency towards the disappearance of plastic in these textiles, but there is not yet 100% vegetable. "

The process: after extraction of the apple juice, skin, seeds, tail and flesh are recovered, dried and then crushed to form a fine powder. Which is mixed with synthetic products to form a paste. Flattened and moulded to the desired size, this paste then covers the appearance of a grained leather. "Appleskin has features similar to leather, without its negative effects. This textile is durable, friction resistant and waterproof ", guarantees Marie Quiniou, founder of Peurce.

Order in advance

To launch her production and make her first bags, Marie Quiniou opened a crowdfunding campaign on ulule. Launched on 15 September, it will last 5 weeks. "once the campaign is over, all sales will be made at the Peurce site, always in pre-sale. This way of selling is unique for the leather goods industry and is intended to consume differently by limiting overproduction, "explains the young head of the company.

It is also a way of controlling costs since Marie Quiniou has chosen a local workshop, in Plancoët (29), to manufacture her bags and other small leather goods. "I also used the white butterflies of Finistère to produce dustbags, the fabric bags that will protect Peurce products," she adds.

From the consumer's point of view, "you will have to be patient," warns the young woman, "but the feeling of receiving an almost unique product, produced in very small quantities, can be all the more satisfying. "
