After the international and the national, the Ariège company O beau cuir wants to develop the local market

Thierry Fresno, originally from Ariege, manager of the company O beau cuir, started out in the sector in Parisian stores, before returning to his land in 1999. Today, he seeks to reach a local clientele with its range of scrap leather.

What does your activity involve ?

The leather and skin trade. O beau cuir is a specialist in scrap leather. I offer a wide range of high quality leather offcuts, and also a range of various skins (goatskin, cowhide, sheepskin).

Where does your raw material come from?

It comes from major manufacturers of furniture or luxury leather goods. I reprocess and recycle scraps that have become waste. For this, several times a year, I visit suppliers in France and Italy to regularly renew my stock. Mainly Duvivier for furniture and Hermès, Chanel or Gucci for luxury leather goods. Once in my depot in Saint-Jean-du-Falga, I sort and reprocess this selection of pieces.

What then becomes of this material ?

It is mainly intended for leather goods : the leathers are ideal for the creation of handbags, wallets, purses, belts… but also increasingly for saddlery.

How has your business evolved in recent years ?

Before the pandemic, almost all of my stock was exported by whole containers abroad, mainly to China. The pandemic has caused a huge drop in activity : it has become impossible to ship goods outside our borders. So I completely changed my way of working.

I restructured the existing but non-functional merchant website. This site is intended for both professionals and individuals. Quality, follow-up and responsiveness allow me today to be closer to my customers.

What are your goals ?

After having worked internationally, then nationally, I am now trying to reach a local clientele. There is a pool of craftsmen who today have become loyal.
