Cinema, after-work cocktails, sales… yes, we know, it is really not easy to save money with all the daily temptations. However, it is thanks to small gestures that we could also offer ourselves a great vacation or even - let's be crazy - one day a real estate investment. Where to start ? Here are 10 ways to learn how to save.

Set goals

To start saving money, you need to set goals, and above all, good reasons to save to motivate you. Finally, it's much easier to make a small sacrifice now if you know it's worth it, rather than doing it for no apparent reason.

Then, each week, having a money goal to set aside. But do not think too big, go gradually! At the end of the week, try for example to put 10 euros aside, then the following month 20. Do not start with too big projects, at the risk of being too quickly discouraged by seeing that the ends of the month are difficult.

Do not make unnecessary purchases

Do you really need this egg yolk separator plastic fish? The answer is obviously no! Before buying on a whim, put down the object or garment that suddenly makes you want to, go home and ask yourself if it is an important and above all useful purchase. If so, return to the store the next day. But there is also a good chance that the answer is no. And if not, you will not have spent your money stupidly!

Opt for the sub-brand (but not the sub-sub-brand)

We are not talking about buying the first price salmon that tastes like plastic, but for a good number of food, you wouldn't recognize the brand of its sub-brand... So you might as well pay less, for all dry products such as rice, pasta, biscuits and sweets for example. Avoid only the cheapest brand for anything fresh, your stomach will thank you.

Select essential expenses

Perhaps, we may say, that having an espresso every morning at the local café is not vital. You can very well take coffee from home and enjoy it in a park near your office (at least every other day?). Some everyday expenses are completely avoidable. By prioritizing your essential expenses, you can put more money aside for more judicious outings, purchases or investments. The way to know: ask yourself the question before taking out your wallet. If the answer is "yeah, it can be nice", it's just nice, not necessary.

Having several accounts

To put money aside, it is much easier and more satisfying to see the evolution of your accounts. To do this, putting your saved money in another account allows you to motivate yourself, but also not to crack and spend everything without realizing that you are using up your savings. So each beginning of the month, a small transfer will secure your savings.

Plan a monthly budget on your salary

By choosing a budget not to be exceeded for your month, you can then finally put money aside on your salary. In your budget, you will need to include your shopping, your hobbies, gas or transport, rent and utilities.

The piggy bank with big words

A good return to childhood can only do good for your wallet, right? Finally, why not! Take a box or a container, and for each swear word put €1 in it. What purpose? You will learn to swear less, but also to save money. At the end of each month you will have collected a small sum which will allow you to treat yourself with the fruit of your swear words!

Addiction money

Similar to swearing, setting aside money for each addiction you overcome is very positive and empowering. Take the example of cigarettes: a heavy smoker for 10 years, you have finally decided to quit smoking. To visualize the harmful effect that this addiction had on your bank account (and your lungs) you only have to place the money you would have spent each week in a pot. A pack costing €10, if you smoked 5 packs a week then put €50 every Sunday in your piggy bank. And at the end of the year, you can go to the bank to put this money in your savings account, instead of seeing it go up in smoke! Also works with candies, candy bars, 4th coffee of the day..

Limit yourself with cash

We all know it, a credit card in hand and anything is possible! But ultimately, by restricting ourselves to cash, we will not be able to exceed the amount that we have set. Let's take the example of a game evening on the terrace. You only plan to drink a few beers so €30 should be enough. This way, we avoid paying for the rounds of all your friends on a whim at first base! This trick also works for sales and even shopping.

Don't be too generous!

Being generous is a luxury you can afford when you're rich! But if, like us, you come close to the negative at the end of each month, avoid giving too much. As the saying goes, "good accounts make good friends"! So to avoid losing too much money, learn to say no, to watch your friends' debts but also to think of yourself first. For example, no more rounds at the bar or Lydia or Paypal transfers that your friends forget to give you.
