The trial of the resounding robbery of Kim Kardashian in Paris is far from over. Two investigating judges on Friday ordered the referral to the assizes of twelve people involved in this case dating back to October 2, 2016. On the night of October 2 to 3, 2016, the American star, then aged 36, was robbed by several men, some dressed as police officers, in a discreet luxury hotel residence in Paris, where she was came to attend Fashion Week. Two thieves had threatened her with a gun to her temple, before tying her up and gagging her.

“He asked me with a strong French accent for my “ring”” (ring), she told the police just after the robbery. “They tied me (…) then carried me to my bathroom”, where the young woman had been locked up. Three other men were on watch at the reception, a sixth being at the wheel of a vehicle to ensure the escape.

The robbers had taken several diamond and gold jewels, including an 18.88-carat stone. Total amount of damage: more than six million euros, according to the indictment order. “Only certain jewels, lost by the criminals in their flight, were found”, note the judges. Investigators believe that the rest was sold mainly in Belgium.

An 'old-fashioned' gang of thugs

The group, described by the police as an 'old-fashioned' gang of hoodlums, is believed to have carried out the biggest robbery in detriment of a private individual of the last twenty years in France. After five years of investigation, the two investigating judges in charge of the case largely followed on Friday the requisitions for dismissal from the Paris prosecutor's office, taken in June 2020.

Ten alleged members of the gang are returned to the assizes for the robbery or kidnapping of Kim Kardashian, while an eleventh is returned only for another criminal project on which the judges suspected part of the gang of working after the one having targeted Kim Kardashian. A twelfth will appear for a related offense related to an offense against the laws on weapons.
